Holidays in UK in many aspects hasn’t differences in context with another lands. In United Kingdom Nativity Plays and services of carols are practice too. Britishers at Christmas Eve eat Christmas dinner, however tradicional menu is different in comparison to another countries. But the interesting fact can be carols by Candlelight Service during which all church is light only by candles. In the United Kindom many Britisher walk to the church where take place church service at midnight in the Christmas Eve.
Time of looking forward to Santa
In United Kingdom childrens also wait for Father Christmas. At the evening of Christmas Eve kids hang up sockes or pillow-cases by the fireplace or children’s beds. They know that Father Christmas put on presents in those items, not under Christmas tree like think children from many countries. Often kids in United Kingdom are very caring – they prepare mince pies or brandy for Santa Claus to eat and as a drink for the time he visits them. Nowadays it is often alcohol-free drink because of Father Christmas has to drive his sled.
The Speech of the Queen
Every year, December 25th Britishers listen to Speech of the Queen. The idea of a Christmas speech started before current Queen took the throne. The Speech of the Queen was a key element in the development of the BBC in early years of activity. The first Christmas Message was in 1932 and their author was King George V. Elizabeth II in her messages tells about important things of UK and other lands and presents her reflexions. It is great summary of facts of the year and programs for the future. The Queen’s Speech is important point of every Christmas.
Every lands have own Christmas customs. The United Kingdom is not the exception in that respect, although many Holidays traditions are transfered from other lands.
